Do you want to build your own solar panels? Here is a quick and easy way to build your own solar panels in a cheap way and get your electric bills to go forever:
1. Get solar cells and tools for work –
you can get solar cells of 3”x6” from any hardware store or order them online for the job. The solar cells may have wax in them so they need to be washed properly in hot water before use but be careful as they are very fragile and may break easily.
2. Things required –
Things needed for the job are soldering iron, glass sheet, bus wires, plexiglass, screws, multimeter to measure voltage, wires, glue and other things.
3. Solder tabbing wire on solar cells –
For 3”X6” dimension of solar cells cut the tabbing wire in 6” inches each. Now solder the rows of solar cells in series. While soldering do not press the cells too hard or they may break as they are very fragile. So make sure you go easy with them and work gently.
4. Lay the solar cells in glass –
In this step we have the rows of soldered solar cells in series. Take the rows and lay them down with opposite ends and the rows will still be all in series. Thus, if the top, is positive then the next row may be negative and so on. Then they are glued down so they do not move and stay put. Now, you can connect all your rows in series with bus wire of 5 mm.
5. Cover it with glass –
now covering this whole thing with a plexi -glass cover can help to keep moisture and other things away and will make your solar panel intact. Although many might say that glass will crack or if you use wood at the base that wood will warp. Thus, it is all up to you to decide which material you will use where.
6. Connect it with a battery –
now first connect the panel to batteries and then to an inverter. You can also use a computer UPS but you’ll need more power to power your home. The batteries don’t have to be new, and they can be the lead-acid type, but it’s better you buy good ones or else all efforts could go in vain. You can set the whole thing on a wooden mount or install it where you get maximum sunlight which the panel will help to convert into electricity. Now you can check the voltage and the amps reading to know whether your solar panel is performing correctly or not.
Thus, it is not very difficult to make a solar panel but it does require some hard work. If you have the time and the energy, then you can easily make a solar panel for yourself and use it for emergency or any other purpose. This best and the cleanest source of alternative energy and has great potential. Try building your own solar panel with the instructions given.
