If you are young and energetic you can make your own solar panel system at home easily. Of course for that you will need a few items which we discuss here and the steps involved in making these solar panels:
1. Tools and materials required –
Soldering Iron, Drill, Caulk Gun, Solar Cells, Bus Bar, Tabbing Wire, Solder, Flux Pen, Plywood, trim pieces, Primer, Super Paint, Silicone Caulk, Wood Glue, 14 Gauge Wire
2. Build the frame for the panel –
Start by taking your 2 by 4 piece of plywood and glue the pieces to it. Now pre-drill some holes and screw it down with fairly skinny screws. Now use primer to coat it 2 times and paint with Super Paint. Finally seal with silicone on the inside edges for a good seal. Also add 4 quarter inch holes for breathing. The holes are important for the moisture which enters to escape. It is necessary that they are drilled on the bottom so if your panel is out in the rain, huge quantities of water won’t get in.
3. Solder the cells together –
Soldering solar cells can be a bit tricky so it is best to start with 2 cells and use a simple soldering iron. Take the flux pen and make 6 dots on the back of your solar cell. Now lay the tabs from the first solar cell and lay them on top of the dots but make sure this cell is also facing downwards. Take your soldering iron and put it on the tab and retain it there until you see heat wave go beyond the white dot. Redo the above steps until you have three strands of 12 solar cells. Now examine your 3 strands of 12 solar cells for 6 volts. If they all have 6 volts, stick the strands to your plywood with silicone. Paste them the way that works best for you.
4. Solder the bus bars –
Soldering bus bar is much easier than soldering solar cells. You need to solder tabbing wires to the first solar cell of each row which have not been tabbed. You need to take the negative wires and the positive wires and attach them to the bus bar. Then on the side of that there is another separate bus bar that is the negative side. Do that on the opposing side and then test for 18 volts. Now solder your positive and negative wires to the bus bars. Then drill holes and run your wires through them.
5. Cover with Plexiglass –
Silicone your wires to the plywood. Now just silicone your plexiglass on and predrill additional holes and screw it on with screws and washers. Seal up the wire holes from the outside and you are done. Your solar panel system is ready to be connected with the battery and inverter and is ready to be used. Thus, this is the easiest way to make your solar panel and is definitely worth trying. Give it a try and see.
